A Posteriori

Definition

Knowledge derived from or justified by experience and empirical observation.

Explanation

Scientific knowledge is paradigmatically a posteriori. Empiricists argue that all substantive knowledge of the world must ultimately be grounded in experience. Even our most abstract concepts, they claim, are derived from sensory impressions.
