Dialectic

Definition

A method of argument through dialogue, or Hegel's process of thesis-antithesis-synthesis by which ideas and history develop.

Explanation

For Plato, dialectic was the art of philosophical conversation leading to truth. Hegel transformed it into a logic of development where contradictions drive progress. Marx materialized the dialectic, seeing class conflict as the engine of historical change.
