Lao Tzu

Lao Tzu is the legendary author of the Tao Te Ching, the foundational text of Taoism. Whether he was a historical figure or a composite of several thinkers remains debated.

The Tao Te Ching presents a philosophy of living in harmony with the Tao (the Way) — the fundamental, nameless force that flows through all things. Lao Tzu advocated wu wei (non-action), simplicity, and humility as paths to wisdom and peace.
